Lucas Hernández Injury

Footballer Lucas Hernandez Ruled Out of Euro 2024 Due to Injury

France’s hopes for Euro 2024 have taken a hit as defender Lucas Hernandez is set to miss the tournament after suffering a knee injury. The 28-year-old sustained the injury during Paris St-Germain’s Champions League semi-final match against Borussia Dortmund.

Hernandez was forced off the field in the 42nd minute of PSG’s 1-0 loss to Dortmund. Following a medical examination, it was revealed that he had torn the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee. This type of injury usually requires surgery and a lengthy recovery period.

Although PSG has confirmed that Hernandez will undergo surgery in the coming days, they haven’t provided a specific timeline for his return. Typically, players with ACL injuries need six to eight months to recover, but sometimes it can take even longer.

This setback is particularly disappointing for Hernandez, who was a key player in France’s World Cup-winning team in 2018. He has represented his country 37 times and was also part of the squad for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Unfortunately, he suffered a similar ACL injury during the first group match against Australia, which ruled him out for the rest of the tournament.

With the 2024 European Championship set to kick off on Friday, 14 June, France will now have to make do without Hernandez’s defensive prowess as they aim for success in Germany.
